There are several pills and liquids on the market that claim to prevent your dog’s urine from burning the grass. Before giving your dog anything you should always talk to your vet. There are few easy and inexpensive things you can do without medicating your dogs to help prevent burn marks.
Train your pet to eliminate in a designated area of the yard. Cover this area of your lawn with mulch or pea gavel and add a bird bath – a whole new garden just for Fido!
Dilute your pet’s urine by feeding them canned food or moistening dry food with warm water prior to feeding.
Add one tablespoon of TOMATO JUICE to your dog’s food once a day.
Water the spot after urinations – watering up to eight hours after elimination helps offset burn marks. So turn those sprinkler systems on! (Of course keep Denver Water’s watering times in mind.)
Try to use the following grass when/if you reseed or sod your lawn as they are more resistant to urine effects: Fescue and Perennial Ryegrass. Note, Kentucky Bluegrass and Bermuda are very sensitive grasses.
