Gus is a 5-year old Labrador. We adopted him from the Denver Dumb Friends League in September of 2004 so our other dog, Bailey, would have a friend. The Dumb Friends League had no history on Gus, with the exception of where he was found. Although Gus got along with our other dog, we started noticing he had very aggressive behavior toward other animals (and some people). He got into fights at the dog park, which quickly ended his trips there. Also, when we walked him, he would growl or raise his hair at or try to fight with other dogs that we passed. In addition to his aggression, he also had some other issues. He would instantly pee if we ever raised our voices. Also, after we went to bed, he would regularly have anxiety-type attacks where he would pace and whine for hours (keeping everyone awake).

After around one year, we had reached a point where we did not feel comfortable having Gus around any other dog or person. This, unfortunately, meant that neither Gus nor our other dog was getting the exercise or attention they needed. We decided to get Gus some help after these behaviors continued, but were a little worried it was too late since he was 4-years old. Kari and Wag & Train were recommended to us by a friend that had used her services for puppy obedience. Kari met with us and our dogs for three private sessions, where we learned about Gus’ behavior and how to replace his aggressive behavior with relaxed behavior. After three months of training, Gus was much more relaxed both at home and in public. He stopped peeing and having anxiety attacks at night. In addition, we were able to walk him around other dogs (and people) without him growling or lunging. Also, due to Kari’s training program, Gus is much more obedient! Now, we have enrolled Gus in one of Kari’s obedience classes for socialization, and he is doing great there too!

Thanks to Kari, Gus is enjoying life much more these days and so are we! Thank you again Kari – we really appreciate your help!
