Hello my name is Lava. I am a loving, loyal and playful 1 ½ year old Yellow Lab with some fear issues. Woof….. woof…. We all have issues right? My mommy and daddy took me to Kari for a one-on-one evaluation and treatment plan. I trotted in, smelled around, scoped out Wag & Train, tucked my tail in between my legs, and barked.
I can’t thank Laura Brody enough for the help she has given me and my 18-month old Akita, Hiro. She saved our relationship and my “Demolition Machine” (as she dubbed him) has now become a “Dream Machine”!
We adopted Daisy from a local shelter last July. At the time, she seemed like the perfect dog for us. She was very sweet, cuddly, and mellow. When we brought her home she seemed very content to lie on the bathroom floor while our cats sniffed at her through the door. Read more about Daisy's challenge
We can’t thank you enough for your help with our 2 ½ year old English Bulldog, Cecil. We always knew from the time he was a puppy that Cecil had an “alpha dog” personality, but never knew that it would turn out to be an issue when he stayed at doggie day care. He was always great around other people or with other dogs when we would take him on walks in our neighborhood. Needless to say, we didn’t know what to do when we found out that he was getting multiple “time outs” at day care Read more about Cecil's challenges.
Rocky came to us from Maxfund when he was about 9 months old. He'd been brought to Denver following the Katrina Hurricane and was thin, had bad diarrhea, and was generally in poor condition from spending so much time in the dirty water with very little, if anything to eat. Maxfund did a great job cleaning him up, getting him started on anti-biotics, and also neutering him. Read more about Rocky ’s challenges.
Billy Jo the Bulldog had been a handful since the day Jeff in Denver brought her home to join his family. Her destructive behavior was only one piece of the puzzle. When her behavior became aggressive towards the family’s other two dogs, Jeff knew it was time to do something, otherwise Billy Jo would not be able to live with them.

Last year Tami Skinner of Denver, Colorado had three beloved Shelties: Domino, Eddie and Wiggins. Sadly, Domino passed away in December. Domino had acted as the head of the pack for Eddie and Wiggins so her loss was deeply felt among the dogs.
Within a week after Domino had passed, when Eddie would go outside to do his business he began bring his feces back into the house. Read more about Eddie's training success
My husband and I ‘inherited’ a dog from our daughter at Christmas 2005. We were less than thrilled. She adopted a very sad little dog, Lil’ Bit, from the Humane Society and then realized that when she was working full-time she did not have time to take care of or train her dog. She was ready to return the dog to the shelter and I could not bear to see her go back.

Gus is a 5-year old Labrador. We adopted him from the Denver Dumb Friends League in September of 2004 so our other dog, Bailey, would have a friend. The Dumb Friends League had no history on Gus, with the exception of where he was found.

Wilson is a 5-year old Great Dane, and is a Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue (RMGDR) foster dog. Although he lived in at least four homes prior to being surrendered to RMGDR, and was neglected, abused and attacked by dogs, he was reportedly good with adults, children, cats and other dogs. He was also leery of men. It was soon apparent that most of this information wasn't correct. Read more about Wilson's dog training success
We adopted Beru from Maxfund in May. She had been rescued from a shelter in
New Mexico, and it was apparent that she had been abused. Because she had
moved so much and missed out on socialization with people, Beru was very
fearful and had little trust. This caused her to be aggressive. Read more about Beru's dog training success
Dear Kari,
This letter is long overdue! I can't tell how grateful I am to you for the work you have done with Harley. It seems like a different lifetime when I called Dr. Hillis in tears because I didn't know what to do with Harley and my family was saying things like, you can't keep her. As Dr. Hillis knows I am very attached to my dogs and that was like saying you can't keep your child. Read more about Harley's dog training success
I adopted Molly from the Colorado Humane Society in June, 2003. A week
after her adoption she was in the hospital being treated for parvo. Being a
tough character, she beat the disease and came home. She then went back to
be spayed. As a result of her hospital stays and recuperation at home she
didn't meet other dogs. When she did finally get to meet other dogs she
just didn't like them! She would bark furiously and lunge at them showing
them her very white teeth. Read more about Molly's dog training success
I visited the Dumb Friends League in February of 2003 and fell for a
3 year old Australian Shepherd mix. He was a lost dog and the staff
had affectionately named him Burrito. After the adoption, it became
apparent that he had some aggression toward other dogs. Some dogs he
was fine with, but with others he would growl and lunge; I never knew
how he would react.

Vasi captured my heart when I saw her picture at my vet's office.
Everyone that I knew thought I was nuts for wanting to adopt this
creature. Vasi is a pit bull mix and that was all my friends could
see.
All I could see was her beautiful amber eyes begging me to take
her
home. Vasi adapted beautifully with my 11-year old dog, Dascha,
a Jack
Russell mix. In March of 2004, we lost Dascha to an accident and
that is
when Vasi's lead/dog aggression became noticeably worse. Read

I adopted Tova from the Mile High Humane Society in July 2003,
and was told that she did not 'play well with others'. She captured
my heart and I took her home, but quickly discovered that she REALLY
didn't like other dogs. I was recommended to Kari and am so thankful
for the opportunity to work with such a knowledgable person. Read
